Mission Charities - Christmas 2006

Thank You! - Over £1,700 raised!

Each year at St Andrew's the Christmas collections are shared between three charities that need our support. We are very pleased to announce that the Christmas 2006 collections raised over £1,700, and that sum will be split between the charities listed below.

Thank you to everyone who made a donation, and please continue to pray for the work of these organisations during 2007.

Christian Aid ~ Pakistan Earthquake Aid

The Pakistan earthquake in October 2005 killed 75,000 people and left more than three million homeless, Christian Aid in partnership with Islamic Relief and Church World Service (CWS) has focussed on providing relief supplies, shelter, clean water, getting doctors to rural areas and sending grief counsellors; also retraining and providing new job skills to the locals.

However, some 30,000 vulnerable people are still living in tents, but most survivors ore living in transitional shelters made of wood and corrugated iron sheets. They face a second winter in makeshift accommodation trying to cope with the harsh conditions that this part of the world encounters.

Shelter

Shelter was set up forty years ago to prevent bad housing and homelessness from taking a terrible toll on people's lives. Although their immediate aim is to end homelessness they are working hard to ensure everyone has a suitable, decent, and affordable home; has support that enables them to find and keep a home; and live in a neighbourhood with access to services and opportunities. They help more than 170,000 people a year fight for their rights, get back on their feet, and find and keep a home.
